Galway United today confirmed that manager Tommy Dunne has left the club.
The statement comes after reports emerged this week that Dunne had left the club, but there was no word from United's board of directors. Today, the club thanked him from his hard work and helping the club achieve promotion in his first season.
The statement reads: "The club would like to thank Tommy for his hard work and dedication in the three seasons following Galway United's return to the League of Ireland, including achieving promotion in his first season and reaching the EA Sports Cup Final in his second season with the club.
"Unfortunately, the club has not made the required progress this season and a recent run of poor results has led the board to the decision that a change in management is required.
"Everyone at the club wishes Tommy all the best in the future. There will be no further comment from the club on this matter."
The club say they will release a statement on the matter of a replacement in due course.
