Some footballers have memorable debuts, but it will take something extraordinary to beat what happened to Jeremy Menez on Wednesday night.
The French international joined Bordeaux earlier this week from AC Milan and made his debut in a friendly against Lorient. Menez lost part of his ear in a clash with Didier Ndong.
Ndong's boot landed on Menez's ear after both men clashed for the ball. The freak accident saw a part of Menez's right ear sever as blood gushed from the wound.
Menez was taken to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery. Ndong released a statement, through his club after the incident, apologising for his part in the incident.
"I offer my apologies to Jeremy Menez and Girondins de Bordeaux... I give him my full support for the coming days and hope to see him very quickly on the pitches of Ligue 1"/
Bordeaux's Ligue 1 season begins on August 13th at home to Saint-Etienne.
