Former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal says he has not retired from football management just days after suggestions in the Dutch media that he had.
The ex-Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Netherlands boss was quoted by Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf as saying that he had had enough of coaching at the elite level.
The paper also said that the sudden passing of Van Gaal's son in law also contributed to his decision.
But Van Gaal has now told a Spanish radio station Cadena Ser that retiring from the game is just an option for him and he is only taking a sabbatical for now.
"Whether I continue or not will also depend on the offers I get," said Van Gaal, who also explained that he had turned down an approach from Spanish club Valencia as they enjoy a poor season at the wrong end of the La Liga table.
"I've coached many clubs and I think it's very difficult to improve on that level of clubs.
"It's not true that I've retired, not at this moment, but I'll decide at the end of my sabbatical, next June or July."
Van Gaal's last act in management saw him lead Manchester United to FA Cup glory in 2016 as they defeated Crystal Palace in the Wembley final.
As a manager, the 65 year old has won league titles in Spain, the Netherlands and Germany, and also led Ajax Amsterdam to Champions League glory in 1995.
