Former Ireland international lands managerial post in India

Former Republic of Ireland international Curtis Fleming is India-bound after being given his first job as a manager with Punjab FC.

The former Middlesborough and St Patrick's Athletic full-back has been in coaching for several years but has only worked as a manager for a two-game stint as caretaker boss at Crystal Palace in 2012.

Fleming announced the news in a post on Twitter on Sunday afternoon.

"I'm looking forward to getting back out to the Punjab and the season ahead with @RGPunjabFC," Fleming said on Twitter.

Fleming has already done some work (see main photo: courtesy of @RGPunjabFC) with the Indian club where was coaching the reserve team earlier this year.

After two spells in the League of Ireland with St Patrick's Athletic, with whom he won one league title, Fleming moved to Middlesbrough where he spent 10 years, making over 300 appearances.

He won the First Division title with the Teeside club in 1995.

Mick McCarthy handed the Dubliner the first of his ten international caps in 1996.

Since he retired from playing, Fleming has been an assistant manager with Hartlepool United and Queens Park Rangers while he has also been the First Team Coach at Bolton Wanderers and Middlesbrough.

Punjab FC play in the I-League which was the top-flight in India before the establishment in 2013 of the Indian Super League from which there is no relegation.
