Former Germany international defender Christoph Metzelder is being investigated by authorities in the country on suspicion of distributing child pornography.
Metzelder, who has forty-seven international caps for die Mannschaft, is being questioned by investigators in Dusseldorf over allegations that he sent images of illegal content to a recipient in Hamburg via WhatsApp.
Two police searches were carried out in Dusseldorf on Tuesday of this week.
Metzelder has been said to have co-operated with police and investigators over the allegations.
The images and electronic devices collected by police will be searched as the investigation continues.
Metzelder was a member of the squads for the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, and became a household name at Borussia Dortmund.
Dortmund won the 2001-2002 Bundesliga title during Metzelder's seven-year spell with them, before winning La Liga with Real Madrid in 2007-2008.
