Pat Fenlon was not ready to leave Shamrock Rovers when he did just over two weeks ago but he respects the clubs decision and remains proud of the work that he put in at underage levels.
The former Shelbourne, Derry City, Bohemians and Hibs manager joined Off The Ball to discuss professionalism in the League of Ireland and his time at Tallaght Stadium.
"I'm disappointed that I'm not still there but I'm honoured to get the chance to manage the club like I say I grew up following Rovers, as will always be the case.
"Once you have a club you never change it. I had a good two years there, I enjoyed it but we move on. I respect the decision of the club and I've got to move on."
Fenlon refers to the recent Bohs result with many people lauding the youngsters for their marvelous effort and he believes he has left the club in a healthy state. In reference to these young players on display last Friday night, he says, "they all just didn't appear at the club in the last couple of weeks."
"That was part of my remit to oversee the development of players and coaches and managers from the under 16s to the senior team and I think we've done that along with Dave Henderson and myself and the other staff, there has been a lot of work done, a lot of recruitment."
While Fenlon believes he did do many good things, he also holds his hand up and admits that in his two years in charge that he didn't get close enough to Dundalk, who are currently in the middle of an unprecedented run of success in the league under Stephen Kenny.
Fenlon compared his win rate to Michael O'Neill, who had a 58% win rate Rovers against his 55% and said it was down to small margins in football and football management.
The young players coming through, for the sake of the league, is something Fenlon is proud of and he hopes they continue to come through and make it into Rovers' senior side.
