Former Barcelona defender Philippe Christanaval has recalled how ex-Manchester United, Netherlands and Ajax manager Louis van Gaal burst into tears after being informed that he was being sacked by Barcelona.
The 1995 Champions League winner led the Catalan club to back-to-back La Liga titles in 1998 and 1999.
But he then took over the Netherlands national team in 2000.
The Dutchman then returned to Barca for a second spell in July 2002 for six months before being sacked and Christanaval was at the club in that brief second era.
The Frenchman shared his memories on SRF of Van Gaal's reaction after being sacked.
"He came into the dressing room after hearing the news, started to talk, and all of a sudden began crying like a baby," he said.
"He was really hurt. It impacted me seeing him cry. He was a hard, cold, person, and here he was destroyed."
