Emre Can ruled out for up to six weeks with ankle injury

Jurgen Klopp will have to plan for Liverpool's Europa League semi-final ties without Emre Can, after it was revealed he has suffered ankle ligament damage during their 4-3 victory over Borussia Dortmund.

Liverpool advanced in the most dramatic fashion on Thursday night, but now will be without Can for their upcoming games against Villarreal with the midfielder expected to miss up to six weeks.

Scans revealed that Can had ruptured ankle ligaments during the tie at Anfield and may even be a doubt to the European Championships in June.

“Emre is injured. He will take time" Klopp told reporters.

“It’ll be for the next four or five weeks so we should not say the season is finished.”

Can has made 29 appearances for Liverpool this season and his only goal of the campaign has come against Rubin Kazan in the early rounds of the Europa League.
