Dundalk defeated Cork City in today's final day Premier Division showdown to claim their first League of Ireland title since 1995.
Goals from Stephen O'Donnell and Brian Gartland helped the Lilywhites to a 10th league title for the Louth club.
O'Donnell scored for the Lilywhites at the start of the second half to put the Lilywhites into a crucial lead.
O'Donnell, who was told his career might be over after damaging his knee earlier this season, pounced on a loose ball at the edge of the box to fire a low shot past Cork keeper Mark McNulty.
And Gartland made sure of the points and the destination of the title when he forced in a second.
It means Dundalk claimed the title with two points to spare but with a vastly superior goal difference.
Meanwhile, Athlone Town were relegated after a 1 - 1 draw with Bray Wanderers. UCD's win at home to Drogheda condemned the Midlanders to automatic relegation but the Students also face a playoff against Galway FC who emerged from the First Division promotion playoff.
The final day of action saw St Pats beat Sligo Rovers 4 - 1 away, Shamrock Rovers edge Limerick at home and Bohemians defeat Derry City 2 - 1 at home in what could be Owen Heary's last game in charge at Dalymount before a rumoured move to Sligo.
