Saturday's Cup Magic | FA Cup third-round delivers shock results

It was a debut to forget for Newcastle's Kieran Trippier.

The England right-back had to endure a painful home defeat to League One side Cambridge United in their FA Cup third-round tie.

Cambridge, also known as 'the U's', shocked the sell-out St James' Park when striker Joe Ironside poached the only goal of the game, amidst some plucky Magpie defending.

It was Cambridge's first win over Newcastle since 1984, much to the delight of the 4830 travelling fans packed up in the rafters of the stadium.

Republic of Ireland midfield maestro Wes Hoolahan got a run-out as a substitute on the hour mark and played his part to ensure a historic victory for the club.

Kidderminster who?

In another major cup upset of the day, sixth-tier Kidderminster Harriers F.C came from behind to beat Championship side Reading at home.

Reading's George Puscas gave The Royals the lead in first-half stoppage time but Sam Austin, the Kidderminster captain, equalised midway through the second half. Not without the help of some butter-finger goalkeeping from the Reading goalie.

The winner came in the 82nd from Amari Morgan-Smith. Amongst a scuttling scramble for the ball, right on the line following an inswinging corner, Morgan poked it home โ€“ sending the home crowd locals into pandemonium.

Other results

Another shock result happened at Boreham Wood, who saw off League 2 side Wimbledon 2-0.

The non-league side fashions the likes of Irishman Connor Smith, who once upon a time previously appeared on Sky One's "Football Next Star" and trained (briefly) under Jose Mourinho's Inter Milan.
