To see Cristiano Ronaldo in full flight is quite the sight. In his pomp, it appeared at times that he had wings and now the president of Portugal, Miquel Albuquerque, has confirmed that he will be honoured in his home country with an airport named after him.
The airport in Ronaldo's home city of Funchal will be renamed the Cristiano Ronaldo Airport after the Real Madrid star led his country to glory at Euro 2016 despite missing out on most of the final with a nasty clash in the early stages with Dmitri Payet.
Few would argue that Ronaldo is the best player that has ever come out of Portugal and it would be safe to say that is exactly how they see it in Portugal too.
In the battle between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, one issue that stood out for both men was the lack of international honours on their CVs. While Messi missed a penalty in a loss to Chile in the Copa America final, Ronaldo was on the way to securing Portugal's first international trophy and becoming even more of a legend in his home country than he already was.
While the airport is a good name and will do great things for tourism, don't expect too many Barcelona or Liverpool fans to enjoy flying into Cristiano Ronaldo Airport on their holidays.
