Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes are developing symmetry | Brian Kerr

Brian Kerr was on commentary for Off The Ball today as Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United beat West Ham in the Premier League.

Cristiano Ronaldo can't stop scoring.

The Manchester United striker scored the opening goal against West Ham. It was his fourth goal in the last eight days in all competitions. Former Republic of Ireland manager Brian Kerr noted how good Ronaldo has been but it's not just his goalscoring that is standing out.

"His overall performance was great," Kerr said.

"He was involved in the game. I said he won't be involved in the pressing game...today they didn't need him to be involved in the pressing game."

After the loss to Young Boys during the week, Ronaldo's work rate and ability to contribute in different ways has been a hot topic. Kerr didn't see any work rate issues today against West Ham, instead, he saw a developing relationship between the team's two Portuguese attackers.

"His movement and his positional play, there seems to be a little bit of symmetry going on between himself and Bruno Fernandes, the two Portuguese players. Even more than when they're in the national team together.

There seems to be chemistry developing there."

Fernandes is the focal point of the team and the playmaker, however, Kerr notes that Ronaldo was unselfishly creating for his teammates today.

"When you look at those penalty incidents...it just shows you he's in the action, he's in the box.

A lot of his touches in the game were outside the box but he was making space for others to run into, for Greenwood to run into at times, Lingard when he came on late in the game.

It's hard to be in any way critical of his performance today. That's three goals in his first two league games, with a midweek goal as well so it's a great start for him.”
