Clare joint-captain shares the panel perspective on the parting of ways with Davy Fitzgerald

Clare hurling's joint-captain says there is no division in the panel regarding the departure of manager Davy Fitzgerald.

Cian Dillon told Clare FM that the squad are united after the 2013 All-Ireland-winning manager's exit.

In announcing his decision on Thursday, Fitzgerald had "asked the joint captains to ascertain the opinions of the wider panel on whether they would like a change of voice".

However, Fitzgerald did add that while he took the "divided opinions expressed" into account, his decision to leave was entirely his own.

Dillon echoed the former manager's comments that he had consulted with the joint-captains.

"Davy had been in constant contact with myself and Tony [Kelly] as joint captains over the past few weeks," Dillon told Clare FM, adding that the maintained contact even while Fitzgerald was away on holiday.

"We set about getting the opinion of the players and that came to light last Monday. Lads had a lot of club action in between. We met and spoke about our own performances, what we can incorporate into our training for next year. And then we heard from him in the statement then that he had decided to step down. So yeah big change, I suppose."

He also added that the squad will remain "united always".
