'We will get better' | Lampard frustrated by costly errors at West Brom

Frank Lampard was left frustrated after his side's trip to the Hawthorns in the Premier League on Saturday.

After just half-an-hour of play against West Brom, the hosts led 3-0 with the Republic of Ireland's Callum Robinson finding the back of the net twice as well as Kyle Bartley.

It was definitely a game of two halves however and following the break goals from Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi and one in injury time from Tammy Abraham saw it finish up all square at 3-3.

Chelsea boss Lampard didn't feel at full-time that it was a point saved, however,

"In the end it's two points lost.

"That's no disrespect to West Brom but you can't legislate for our pure mistakes, which they were today.

"I can laud character because we showed character and persistence but we wouldn't need to if we did things properly in the game.

"The first one Marcos [Alonso] heads it into the middle of the pitch for them [West Brom] to transition, the Thiago [Silva] one is a mistake, he's been around long enough to know that, and then Marcos loses his man for the third goal from the corner.

"Clear mistakes, you can do as many meetings as you want but if you're going to make those mistakes we've got a mountain to climb."

Lampard made changes during the game, bringing on Callum Hudson-Odoi and César Azpilicueta at half-time, and these made the difference as his side looked a different outfit from the restart.

"We needed a bit of urgency in the team, a bit of pace. Azpilicueta brings personality into the team, even at left-back.

"Callum brought one v one's, something different, got at people - he made a big difference.

"We created two or three really great chances in the first-half, I felt we were going to create more.

"The problem when you're 3-0 down is West Brom are going to really seriously protect the lead which means dropping back, which means frustrating moments."

Lampard had mixed feelings at full-time, which is understandable after seeing some of the best and worst that his players have to offer over the 90 minutes.

Although clearly frustrated by the mistakes they made he was keen too to point out how he feels there's much more to them than the result might suggest.

"It's a big lesson for us, big lesson in the detail of a game.

"We will get a lot better, we're finding our way with new players into the team and a lack of pre-season so we will get better and today is part of the process of getting better.

"We have to accept that things weren't right in our game today because we lost two points."
