The chances of Celtic and Rangers one day playing in the English Football League have become even more remote as clubs reject the possibility of the Scottish clubs playing south of the border in the future.
English clubs in England also shot down the possibility of Premier League 'B teams' as well as clubs from outside the current structure becoming part of a future pyramid.
The EFL says that sides from leagues outside England wouldn't be allowed to join and it has also "withdrawn" the option of sourcing additional clubs from outside the National League.
In a statement, the EFL said: "Following a meeting of its clubs on Thursday (22 September), the EFL confirmed that the inclusion of Premier League B Teams, clubs from non-English leagues or those outside the English football pyramid will not form part of any ongoing discussions for the ‘Whole Game Solution'".
The EFL's 72 clubs who currently make up the Championship, League One and League Two had met to discuss proposals such as increasing the number of divisions to five.
They also says that teams in League One, Two and the proposed League Three would want to play through a winter break if it was introduced for the top-flight.
