Brentford dropped midfielder John Swift ahead of their Championship clash with Blackburn Rovers yesterday following a social media post which was not well received by the fans.
UFC Featherweight champion Conor McGregor posted a picture on Instagram along with the caption:
''Some Some days they love you. Some days they hate you. Both days I got paid."
John Swift, who is on loan in Brentford from Chelsea, replied to the post on the eve of the Blackburn game, saying:
''What a guy.''
The comment caused outrage among Brentford followers who interpreted the comment as a criticism directed at them. Swift deleted the post and quickly took to Twitter to apologise for any offense caused.
I apologise for my last Instagram post did not mean to offend anyone especially the Brentford fans.

Despite his repententant reaction, Swift was dropped from the panel for the resultant game. Brentford coach Dean Smith said:
"John wasn't in the team anyway but he posted something on social media that I was made aware of.''
"I spoke to him this morning and I just didn't think it was right to put him on the bench today. He explained it when he took it down and apologised. I don't think there was any malice in it, but it was naive from a young lad.''
"Sometimes I don't think they realise how many people it goes out to once they press the enter key, such is social media. He'll go on international duty now with England U21s, which we're pleased about, but we'll speak to him."
