Blackpool apologise after playing 'We didn't start the fire' during Bradford game.

Blackpool have apologised to Bradford FC and their fans following the playing of Billy Joel's 'We didn't start the fire' over the PA system in their League One clash at Bloomfield Road on Saturday.

The insensitive song selection caused outrage among the Bantams faithful, after 56 supporters perished in a tragic blaze at Valley Parade in 1985.

Blackpool have since said the song selection was accidental, and took to their Twitter account to apologise to those offended.

The city of Bradford staged a special remembrance last May in memory of the victims of the fire, marking the 30th anniversary of the incident.

54 Bradford City and two Licoln City fans died in the stadium inferno, with dozens more injured in a fire that is thought to have started accidentally when a lit cigarette was dropped beneath the wooden stands at Valley Parade.

As of yet, there has been no statement from Bradford football club regarding the gaffe.
