John Giles thinks Mario Balotelli "did not try a leg" during Liverpool's 1 - 0 defeat in Switzerland.
The Ireland legend joined us as always on a Thursday and shared his points of criticism at Liverpool's overall performance.
And he believes that Balotelli has the "talent but not the workrate" needed.
However, he is a fan of Danny Welbeck's workrate and believes that he could be worth €40 million if the Arsenal striker adds regular goals to his game.
As a former midfielder himself, John also talked about Frank Lampard's innate ability to score bucketloads of goals from midfield, although he does not regard the Manchester City player as a "good midfield player" in the traditional sense of the word, comparing him to England 1966 World Cup winner Martin Peters.
John also recalled his schoolboy football days and whether the issue of mouthy parents on the sideline was a problem back then.
"I don't remember mothers being at the matches - and very few fathers - back then," he said, "So the kids were free to play."
