When people talk about January transfers that go well, ex-Manchester United pair Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic is often trumpeted as the perfect poster children due to their eventual success.
There are other examples of signings that worked out - at least initially. On this week's Team 33, we each picked one winter transfer that boosted certain clubs.
Andy Cole was more or less pushed out of Newcastle towards Manchester United in 1995 by manager Kevin Keegan, boosting Alex Ferguson.
French World Cup winner Christoph Dugarry had an excellent short-term impact at Birmingham City in 2003 and Norwegian defender Brede Hangeland proved to be one of the best value for money signings when he moved to Fulham in 2008.
We look at why those transfers worked out so well. But you cannot talk about January transfer dealings without chatting about the ones that clubs would rather brush under the carpet.
So, step forward Fernando Morientes (Liverpool), Afonso Alves (Middlesbrough) and Fernando Torres (Chelsea) as three of the examples we argued about in depth.
