Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes Jordan Henderson has the leadership qualities to lead the Reds when captain Steven Gerrard leaves the club in the summer.
The 24-year-old is already vice-captain at Anfield and in pole position to inherit the armband from Gerrard, who last Friday announced he will quit the Merseysiders at the end of this campaign.
When asked if Henderson has the attributes to lead the club next season, Rodgers said: “It was one of the reason I made him vice-captain. I felt that he has no greater captain to learn from.”
The Ulsterman added: “So that when day came that Steven would move on ... you have someone there who could offer that wisdom and knowledge.”
Rodgers was first asked about where the leadership in the team will come from when Gerrard departs.
