"He loves Everton and gives his all to the club"| Ancelotti on Coleman

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has backed his captain Seamus Coleman for the comments he made after Everton were beaten 3-0 at the weekend by Wolverhampton Wanderers.

In a post-match interview on Sunday, the Donegal native questioned the attitude and desire of his team.

"Shocking, really, really bad. There's no hiding places. They were better all over the pitch and we need to ask some serious questions of ourselves.

“We can all play bad, we can all misplace passes, we can all misplace crosses. But when the attitude isn't there and the desire isn't there.

“As individuals in the dressing room, as a club, we need to be expecting better. Lads really need to dig in, myself included, and get our heads down

“You can lose a game of football, but around the place we need to have more commitment on a daily basis and really come together.”

The veteran Italian coach said he was pleased to hear what the Irish captain said after the defeat.

“He is a fantastic example of what I want from my players. He loves Everton and gives his all to the club,” Ancelotti said.

“Seamus wanted to accept responsibility, which I like from my captain, and I agreed with what he said.

“When you play for Everton it has to mean everything. It is a privilege to represent this club.

“From my time here I am sure the players share this feeling. But they have to show it every time they step on the field.”

Ancelotti took over at Goodison Park in December of 2019 but has failed to make a definitive impact on his team.

The comprehensive defeat to Wolves leaves Everton in 11th, floating in mid-table mediocrity, six points behind Burnley.

The loss also illustrates the scale of the challenge that Ancelotti faces as he tries to bring Everton back closer to the teams at the top.

The Toffees will be hoping that once the Italian gets a full pre-season with the squad and is able to make a few signings in the transfer market that results will begin to improve.
