Southampton advanced to the Fourth Round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday night, but Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew was not happy with Shane Long.
Long was fouled by Crystal Palace's Martin Kelly on the half-hour mark in the box. From the resulting penalty, Charlie Austin gave Southampton a 1-0 lead. They won the match 2-0.
"Shane Long is quick and has got a bit of history in those situations," Pardew said post-match.
"He was definitely going over, I know that, but the video I saw was inconclusive. The players felt it was a bit harsh but it was difficult to see unless you see it clearly on television."
Long was booked last weekend, in similar circumstances against Swansea.
Despite Pardew's protests, Southampton manager Claude Puel told the Southern Echo that the penalty was deserved.
"It was dangerous the tackle of the defender on Shane", Puel revealed. "I am afraid that he was injured, that he take a yellow card... I think it’s important for the yellow card for this dangerous tackle from behind."
