Despite leading after playing 30 games, Chelsea finished the season in third place. Both Liverpool and Manchester City had games in-hand on Mourinho's side. City ended up as champions on 86 points.

The most dramatic ending to a Premier League season ended with Manchester City winning the title on goal difference. With eight games to go their rivals Manchester United were leading the table by three points.
