Adam Johnson's sister launches campaign in support of his appeal

Adam Johnson's sister has launched a Facebook campaign to support the footballer in his appeal after being convicted of child sex offences last week.

Johnson was convicted of two counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of grooming in Bradford Crown Court, and faces a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

According to The Guardian, the player's sister Faye Johnson set up a Facebook page asking users to support Johnson in his appeal, posting a black and white image of Johnson and his daughter wearing a Sunderland jersey.

The text on the image asked users to change their profile picture to the image, and to use the hashtag #TeamAJ.

A page supporting the footballer was also taken down on the social network after a number of people complained about the comments being posted, by which point there were more than 1,000 'likes' on the page.

It is the first public comment by a member of Johnson's family since he was convicted.
