Michéal Donoghue has been the man given the task of repairing a fractured Galway dressing room after such a prolonged ending to Anthony Cunningham's era in charge.
Last year's All-Ireland finalists began the league with a six points win over Cork last week. They travel east to Dublin on Sunday looking to give Dublin their second defeat in a row in the league.
Although Donoghue's tenure with Galway is his first as an inter-county manager, he has been involved with county teams in recent years. The Clarinbridge native was involved in Eamon O'Shea's backroom team in Tipperary for two seasons before taking the job in his home county.
Former All-Ireland winner Shane McGrath worked with Donoghue in Tipperary and thinks that Galway may have found themselves a manager that can lead the county to All-Ireland glory for the first time since 1988.
"Michéal is a very, very good guy. A lot of people would have a lot of respect for him, myself included. I would really value his opinion on things. When he came into the setup, he didn't try and impose himself too much. He didn't try and take over straight away. He knew where he was. He respected the players and management. As a result, lad respected him too. I have no doubt that the Galway lads are the same."
Donoghue was very hands-on in his role with Tipperary according to McGrath. "I would have often found going to him before games asking him how he saw things panning out. More often than not he was on-the-ball about what he was saying".
Galway's Championship campaign begins on June 5th, when the player the winner of the Leinster Championship qualifier group that includes Offaly, Carlow, Westmeath and Kerry.
