It turns out trophies are like buses for Arsenal. Nine years without one and then two come along in two matches at Wembley.
After ending last season in positive fashion by winning the FA Cup, Arsene Wenger's side have raised optimism by outclassing a weakened Manchester City to claim the Community Shield.
The Gunners were also missing players, notably their German World Cup-winning contingent and already new signings Alexis Sancez, Calum Chambers and Mathieu Debuchy seemed to have bedded in nicely.
But can the optimism last? We were joined by Arsenal expert Andrew Mangan of Arseblog who gave his take on the win over City and strengths and weaknesses that may prevent them from overcoming the seven point deficit which stood between them and last season's title.
"The squad is more or less in good shape with one or two gaps that might need to be filled between now and the end of the transfer window," said Mangan, who added that the Gunners need to get fully match-fit in time for the early challenges in the league and Champions League qualifiers.
Mangan also expects Mesut Ozil to improve given that he will have the pace of Sanchez and Theo Walcott to pick out.
"I think one of the reasons that he bought Sanchez was to bring out the best of Ozil and with Theo Walcott coming back towards the end of August/start of September, having that pace that the team lacked for long periods last year will also suit Ozil. So you'd be looking for him to make a step forward. Sanchez has the ability to hit the ground running," said Mangan, who expects Arsenal to challenge for the title.
The Irish Independent's Dan McDonnell was also in studio for the Football Show and he and Joe chatted about another signing made by the Gunners this summer - fitness expert Shad Forsythe - and Liam Brady's comments in the Examiner about the lack of Irish players coming through.
