Brian O'Driscoll might have been standing right next to him as the anthems rang out at Croke Park for Ireland's famous emotional win over England in '07, but he was oblivious to the fact that John Hayes was in tears.
Looking back at the famous match on Off The Ball's roadshow last night, O'Driscoll only realised that 'The Bull' had been crying once the game was done and dusted.
"Hayes was never one for singing anthems too loud, so I couldn't tell there was emotion or not. It was only subsequently I saw it, when I saw the tears in the pictures," he said.
"If I had known, I don't know if I would have started laughing or whether I'd have started crying myself. You knew how important the game was when that freak was going to be crying."
