Warren Gatland's lions could be facing his son

Warren Gatland could be facing his son during the Lions tour of New Zealand in June.

21-year-old Bryn Gatland has been named in the New Zealand Barbarians squad that will host the British and Irish Lions team in a series of matches over the summer.

Gatland is among 19 players initially selected from 15 different provincial regions in New Zealand for the opening game of the tour in Whangarei.

The out-half plays with North Harbour, but was recently called up to the Auckland Blues' squad.

The New Zealand Herald reports that the squad consists of players from the three divisions of New Zealand's national provincial championship.

Speaking to the same publication about the squad selection, Provincial Barbarians Coach Clayton McMillan said:

"It was important to us in selecting this team that it was truly representative of New Zealand.

"It wasn't an easy task, the amount of talent considered is testament to how strong New Zealand rugby is now. We believe we have found a mix of upcoming players and hardened provincial stalwarts to make an exciting team.

"We have picked the base of a team that is capable of playing an entertaining brand of rugby which fits with the BaaBaas tradition of innovation and flair and playing with pure guts and heart."
