The new 62,000-seater has recently opened.
Tottenham Hotspur's new stadium has proved to be worth the wait, and on the eve of the 2019 Heineken Champions Cup final between Leinster and Saracens, the EPCR have confirmed it will host the finals weekend in May 2021.
It's the latest non-traditional rugby venue to stage the final of Europe's premier club competition. Following the successful final in Bilbao 12 months ago, St James's Park in Newcastle is to host tomorrow's decider, while in 12 months time the Stade Velodrome in Marseille will open it's doors for the finals weekend having previously staged several semi-finals over the last few years.
It will be the seventh European Cup final to be played in England and the first to be held in London outside of Twickenham Stadium. Spurs and Saracens have recently entered into an agreement, which will see the two-time European champions play one Premiership match per season at White Hart Lane over the next five years.
Simon Halliday, Chairman of the EPCR says Spurs' new ground was a standout contender to stage the finals weekend.
"We are very excited to be taking the best club rugby in the world to such an innovative and exciting stadium. There is already a real buzz about the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and it will continue the theme of new experiences for our fans in dynamic stadiums that can generate the kind of exceptional atmosphere that has become the hallmark of the Heineken Champions Cup."
Meanwhile, Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy says the game will be further proof of the new ground's multi-purpose function.
"We are excited to have been selected to host this prestigious weekend, the pinnacle of European club rugby, in 2021 and to have this opportunity to welcome EPCR and rugby fans from around the world to Tottenham to experience our new home. These games will add to the portfolio of world-class sporting and entertainment events our multi-use venue will stage in this new leisure destination for London."
