'I've had to accept my impact role' - Ireland's Sean Cronin

He might not be a regular starter for Ireland, but Sean Cronin is "relishing" his role as an impact player in Joe Schmidt's plans.

The hooker joined Off The Ball and Brian O'Driscoll on stage along with Leinster and international team-mate Devin Toner and 2015 women's Six Nations champion Hannah Tyrell for our Roadshow at Drogheda's TLT Theatre.

"I've had to accept my role in the team as the impact player coming off the bench. It's something I've relished this season and Joe calls us the closers," he said.

"Sometimes the last 10 minutes can be more important than the first 10 minutes, especially at test level. When you come in and make a mistake, it can have a huge impact on the game."

Ireland team-mate Jared Payne was also on stage and reminisced about the way in which Joe Schmidt set the team a 21 point winning margin target before the final match against Scotland.

But there were also some regrets to pour over as Toner spoke about the defeat to Wales.

"Looking back at it, those first 20 minutes killed us. You're always going to think at the back of your mind what would have happened if we had kept discipline and not given the stupid penalties. But at the end of the day, that's what sport is and we have the medal in the back of our pockets but you can't look back too much," said Toner.

Cronin echoed that point about refereeing in that game and admitted that the team had done exactly what they had planned not to do.
