English head coach Eddie Jones has hinted at players possibly returning to his side for their Six Nations showdown with Ireland at Twickenham on Sunday.

The 60-year-old Australian, who guided England to the World Cup final last year, has also heaped praise upon Andy Farrell's side who make a bid for the Triple Crown after wins over Scotland and Wales.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Wednesday afternoon, Jones gave his reaction to Mako Vunipola being ruled out of the game after travelling to Tonga for family reasons.

"He's a quality player but we're lucky that we're blessed with two outstanding loosehead props in Joe Marler and Ellis Genge so we can certainly cover the loss of Maco but it's disappointing to lose him."

Jones was reluctant though to give anything more away in relation to Genge as he pushes for a place in the starting 15.

"He'll definitely be in the 23. We don't differentiate between starters and finishers."

Jones was equally as tight-lipped in relation to Manu Tuilagi and whether or not he'll be in contention to feature as the 28-year-old centre continues to battle back from the groin injury he picked up in their opening loss to France.

"He's good, he trained fully today so he should be in contention for selection. It's good to have a quality player back."

The English camp is also keeping an eye on the fitness of fly-half Henry Slade who's return may be imminent as he recovers from an ankle injury he sustained before Christmas.

"He trained today so we've just got to monitor his progress. He's a quality player, he gives us more options."

Jones was keen to praise Ireland and Andy Farrell's team, which he named on Wednesday afternoon.

"They're a good side. They're extremely well-coached, we really respect them."

When asked about the role that new captain Johnny Sexton may play in the clash, and the criticism he has received for certain communication to referees, Jones was careful not paint the number 10 in any sort of negative light.

"I haven't seen enough of it to comment.

"He's an important player, a good player, a British [and Irish] Lions. He deserves the opportunity to captain his country so I'm sure he'll do a good job."
