Saturday rugby round-up: Second Six Nations win for Ireland

It is two wins from two for Ireland in this season's Six Nations.

Five penalties from Johnny Sexton, and one for Ian Madigan have seen Joe Schmidt's side beat France 18-11 at the Aviva.

Ireland led 12 to 6 at half-time, increasing their lead to 18 in the second half. But a late game try from France meant there was a narrow gap between the two teams heading into the closing minutes.

It was a tense wait for the whistle following penalties for France and a number of scrums that could have put the visitors ahead. However, Ireland managed to stay ahead for their six points win.

Next up for Ireland, in a fortnight's time, an England side that ran in 6 tries in a 47-17 defeat of Italy at Twickenham earlier today.

In tomorrow's Six Nations fixture, Wales take on Scotland at BT Murrayfield. Kick-off there is at 3pm.

In this evening's Guinness Pro 12 action, Munster managed a 33-16 win against Cardiff Blues at Irish Independent Park.

It was Denis Hurley, Jack O’Donoghue and Ronan O’Mahony with tries for Munster in a win that has put the team at the top of the Pro12 table.
