Saracens crush Glasgow to set up Munster semi-final

Reigning Champions Cup holders Saracens brushed aside the challenge of Glasgow Warriors this afternoon with a 38-13 win at Allianz Park.

The home side went after their visitors from the off and were unlucky not to score twice after efforts from Chris Ashton and Sean Maitland were ruled out.

Owen Farrell opened the scoring with a couple of penalties before Finn Russell replied for the Scots.

Ashton scored the only try of the first half to give Saracens a 14-3 lead at the break.

Tries from Ashton, Marcelo Bosch and Brad Barritt in the second half, along with a man of the match display from Owen Farrell, saw the holders through to a semi-final against Munster.

Farrell added 18 points with the boot as the English side overcame the early Glasgow onslaught before powering home in the final 20 minutes.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Saracens head coach Mark McCall said: "It was a really strong performance all the way through the game. I thought we came out of the blocks really well, the only issue at half time was that the dominance and the good play that we’d had wasn’t really reflected on the score board.

"I think we did really well in the second half to keep on doing what we do and not get impatient. We just kept on doing the right things to pull away."

They will now head to Dublin to take on Munster in three weeks time after the Irish side beat Toulouse in Limerick on Saturday

Looking ahead to the match against Munster, McCall said: "It’s going to be a very special day. There’s going to be 50,000 Munster fans, we all know there’s an emotional element to this game and making sure that we’re able to cope with that when it comes along is going to be one of our tasks in the next few weeks."
