While the French club game is awash with money, the national rugby team has been at a lower ebb.
They haven't a Six Nations or Grand Slam since 2010 and arrive in Dublin this weekend as underdogs.
That being said, there were encouraging signs in their victory over Scotland two weeks. So Ireland will have to be wary.
Sacrifices
It's not the only arena Irish rugby has had to be on guard. Wealthy French clubs have courted numerous Irish players in recent years.
Some have made the move, while others have gone and returned. Of course, the fact that one sacrifices one's Irish international career (well, Sexton aside) is a fly in the ointment for any players who want to fly the coop.
