Connacht rugby star Mils Muliaina released on bail in the UK

Connacht rugby star Mils Muliaina has been released on bail in the UK after he was arrested last night in connection with an alleged sexual assault.

The 34 year-old former All Black is suspected of being involved in an incident in Cardiff last month.

He was shown on TV being taken away by officers last night at the end of his team's European Challenge Cup match at Gloucester.

In a statement, Gloucestershire Police confirmed that a man in his 30s was arrested at Kingsholm Stadium on suspicion of sexual assault.

They said the allegations relate to an incident in Cardiff in March and the matter is being dealt with by South Wales Police.

South Wales Police say he has now been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Connacht Rugby released a statement confirming that Muliaina is helping police with their inquiries, but claims it is legally unable to say anything more.

Sports Broadcaster with Galway Bay FM, Rob Murphy, was at last night's match and thinks the province probably doesn't know much else:

It comes days after Connacht confirmed that Muliaina would be leaving the province to join Italian side Zebre at the end of this season.
