Peter O'Mahony to captain the Lions against the Maori All Blacks

Munster's Peter O'Mahony will captain the Lions in Saturday's game against the Maori All Blacks.

The Cork native is the first Irish player to captain the side, since Rory Best led a midweek team against the ACT Brumbies in Australia four years ago.

With just a week to go until the First Test against New Zealand, the team for the "Unofficial Fourth Test" is taking shape with next week's game in mind.

Seven Irish players are named in the matchday squad, with five of those on the starting 15. O'Mahony will be joined in the back-row by Ireland teammate Sean O'Brien and Wales No. 8 Taulupe Faletau.

In the front row, Tadhg Furlong is joined by the English duo of Maku Vunipola and hooker Jamie George.

For the first time on this tour, Conor Murray and Johnny Sexton are partnered together in the half-backs.

Jack McGrath and Iain Henderson also take their places on the bench.

The Maori All Blacks have also named a strong team for the game in Rotorua.

All Blacks Akira Ioane, Tawera Kerr-Barlow, Nehe Milner-Skudder and Rieko Ioane are all named in the starting 15 for the home side.
