Paul O’Connell will leave the province this summer for Champions Cup holders, Toulon, The Irish Times are reporting today.
The move will still require IRFU approval, but it is expected a statement will be made in due course after French sources revealed a deal had been struck between all parties.
O’Connell still has a year remaining on his contract, but hinted at a move away after last weekends win at home to the Ospreys.
"I said before that summer will be the time when I make those decisions but that is probably the last time I play for Munster here anyway," he confirmed after what is expected to have been his final match at Thomond Park.
O’Connell will play his final game for the province in Saturday’s Pro12 final against Glasgow Warriors at Kingspan Stadium.
Toulon were crowned Top 14 champions this year and also became the first team to win three successive European Cups.
