Owen Farrell named European Player of the Year

Saracen's out-half Owen Farrell has been named the "European Player of the Year" after helping his side to their second successive Champions Cup victory.

The 25-year-old played a pivotal role as the English side dominated all before them in Europe this year.

He was presented with the first ever Anthony Foley Memorial Trophy after Saturday's final against Clermont Auvergne.

Foley's widow, Olive, and their son, Tony, were present at the match and took part in the ceremony afterwards.

He scored 11 points with the boot as the English side beat Clermont Auvergne 28-17 in Edinburgh.

Speaking at the announcement of the new trophy earlier this week, EPCR Chairman Simon Haliday said: "This is a fitting way to honour Anthony's memory. He was a great player and a great leader as well as a galvanising force in Munster's European odyssey.

"I would like to thank the Foley family and Munster Rugby for allowing us create this trophy for now and for the future."
