SOCCER - PL

There were fireworks on and off the pitch at Anfield last night.

Celebrations went deep into the night after Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson finally got his hands on the Premier League trophy.

It all followed a 5-3 victory for the champions at home to Chelsea.

Naby Keita, Trent Alexander Arnold, Gini Wijnaldum, Roberto Firmino and Alex Oxlade- Chamberlain scored the Liverpool goals.

Before the festivities at Anfield, Manchester United played out a 1-1 draw with West Ham at Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Paul Pogba apologised to his teammates after giving a penalty away just before half-time.

It means both United and Chelsea need only to draw their final games of the season on Sunday.

However, a Leicester win over United at the King Power Stadium will secure top four for them.

Republic of Ireland striker Callum Robinson played a key role as West Brom secured automatic promotion from the Championship.

He scored in a 2-all draw with QPR, which  was enough to secure second place because third placed Brentford lost 2-1 to Barnsley.

The crucial win for the Yorkshire club secured their safety - with Charlton, Wigan and Hull relegated to League One.

Luton - who were ten points from safety in February - avoided the drop with a 3-2 win over Blackburn.

A thumping 4-1 win over Reading means Swansea qualify for the final play-off place on goal difference, with Nottingham Forest missing out after losing 4-1 to Stoke.

Cardiff will also be in the play-offs after a 3-nil win over Hull.

Elsewhere, Derby beat Birmingham, Bristol City drew with Preston and Middlesbrough won away at Sheffield Wednesday.

Millwall were 4-1 winners against Huddersfield.

Champions Leeds finished the season in style - beating Charlton 4-nil before lifting the Championship trophy at Elland Road.

Meanwhile, Leeds have defended their decision to hold an open-top bus celebration following their 4-nil win against Charlton at Elland Road last night.

The club says after discussions with the local Safety Advisory Group, it was decided a brief appearance from the players with the Championship trophy would encourage fans gathered outside the ground to head home.

SERIE A

Juventus need just one more win to claim a ninth consecutive Serie A title.

Juve are six points clear of second-placed Atalanta and can claim their 36th ‘Scudetto’ tomorrow with a win at Udinese.

Inter Milan were held to a goalless draw against Fiorentina last night - they are third with three games to play.

GOLF

Jonathan Caldwell has dropped back to 2 under par on day two of the British Masters in Newcastle.

2017 winner Paul Dunne is level par and not out until 12.40.

Cormac Sharvin and Gavin Moynihan both start the day on 2-over.

Scotland's David Law is the man to catch on 7-under. Tournament host Lee Westwood is further down the rankings at Close House in Newcastle after finishing the opening day on one-under-par.

Donald Trump meanwhile has denied lobbying to get the British Open to come to his Turnberry golf course.

There'd been reports the American president had spoken to the US Ambassador to the UK about securing the sporting event for his Ayrshire resort.

But he's told reporters he'd never mentioned it.
