Murray sent for thigh scan as Snyman begins rehab programme

There are concerns over the fitness of Conor Murray with the resumption of the Six Nations just over six weeks away.

Munster say the scrum-half has been sent for a scan after sustaining a thigh strain.

Murray was replaced by Craig Casey 10-minutes from the end of their 13-3 defeat to Leinster in the Guinness PRO14 semi-finals.

Ireland's Six Nations campaign is due to resume with the visit of Italy to the Aviva Stadium on Saturday October 24.

His injury status will effect his province first and foremost, however, with the 2020-21 PRO14 season due to begin on October 3.

In better news for Munster, lock Jean Kleyn has resumed training after missing the last few weeks with a neck injury.

Meanwhile, RG Snyman's surgery on his torn anterior cruciate ligament is said to have gone "very well", and the Springbok has begun his rehabilitation programme. He's still not expected back until the spring.

Winger Andrew Conway was taken off in Friday's defeat to Leinster after taking a blow to the head, and he's undergoing the standard return-to-play protocols.

Following their anaemic display at the Aviva, Munster will have been further chastened by Felipe Contepomi's assessment of that semi-final.

Speaking ahead of the PRO14 decider, the Leinster backs coach said, "What we need to learn, to take is not to get dragged into a game of contestable box-kicks fest. There has to be more space.

"Actually when you analyse the game, we didn't have much time with the ball but the time we had, we had some good attacks."

Munster have had to endure plenty of criticism for their tactical approach, with OTB Sports' Alan Quinlan adding, "They’re back to their old ways of trying to pressurise the opposition and play a kicking game."
