Munster suffer double injury blow ahead of the Champions Cup

Munster have been dealt a huge injury blow ahead of the Champions Cup quarter-final, with news that two of their backs may miss the match.

Rassie Erasmus' side meets Toulouse in three weeks time on April 1st, and the province have announced that Ian Keatley and Francis Saili have both suffered knee ligament injuries.

Both players suffered the injuries in last weekend's PRO12 win over Cardiff, in Wales. The win maintained Munster's place in the top-four.

Keatley suffered a sprain to his sprain to his posterior cruciate ligament, while Saili sprained his collateral ligament. Munster have announced that the duo have already began their rehab programmes and are unavailable for selection.

No time-frame has yet announced for either players return. Munster play one more PRO12 match, against Zebre, before the Champions Cup quarter-final, giving the duo a tight time-frame of game-time to prove their fitness.

Munster have not played in the knocked stages of the Champions Cup since 2014. Three seasons ago, they were eliminated by Toulon at the semi-final stages.

The injury comes as another blow to Saili. The New Zealander has only played ten times this season, as he has struggled to reach full fitness. Keatley has made 19 appearances this season, as he continues to be linked with a move away from the province this season.
