Munster face investigation over Conor Murray incident during Glasgow Warriors fixture

An investigation is due to take place into an incident which forced Conor Murray to go off for a head injury assessment yesterday, during Munster's clash against Glasgow Warriors.

Murray went down after a heavy collision with Tim Swinson of Glasgow Warriors and was examined by the Munster medical team. After receiving treatment, Murray was allowed to return to the game, where he made a big hit on Josh Strauss.

On subsequent review of the footage, the medical team took Murray off to conduct a HIA as a precaution. The Ireland international passed that test and was allowed to finish out the game. He underwent a second HIA after the game which he also passed.

The decision to allow him back on to the pitch was criticised on social media.

Reports this evening claim that an independent working group entitled 'The Untoward Review Group' will review the incident. The European Champions Cup Medical Advisory Group, acting on behalf of tournament organisers EPCR, is launching the group. The RFU’s Dr. Simon Kemp is believed to be in charge of the committee.

It's understood that EPCR, are in the process of contacting match officials as well as Munster Rugby, to inquire about the time-frame of the incident as well as the findings of the HIA.

Munster say they are confident that Murray showed no signs of concussion following their assessments.

The Untoward Incident Review is set to begin in the coming days.
