Leinster suffer Heaslip and Rob Kearney setbacks

Leinster have suffered a double injury blow as the Pro 12 and European Rugby Champions Cup campaigns resume after the Six Nations.

Ireland full back Rob Kearney is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after undergoing a procedure on a knee injury.

Leinster head coach Leo Cullen has confirmed that the 30 year old will miss the next four to six weeks.

That rules him out of next week's Champions Cup quarter final with English Premiership side Wasps and any potential semi-final should Leinster progress from the last eight.

Fellow Ireland and Leinster veteran Jamie Heaslip will also miss next week's European tie after undergoing a minor procedure on his lower back.

Cullen says the No 8 will be out "for a number of weeks".

He told the Leinster Rugby official website: “Jamie just had a procedure done on his back this morning. He had disc issues. Obviously they come on quite quickly. He trained the week of the England game, pulled out in the warm up – at the very end I believe. He had a bit of discomfort at the start of the week, so he saw a specialist.

“He saw somebody again yesterday afternoon so he was straight in and had a procedure done this morning. It obviously rules him out of the next number of weeks. When we get a report we’ll find out how long that will be. It sounds like they’re reasonably standard procedures.”
