Former Munster hooker Keith Wood believes that Glasgow Warriors were deserved winners of the PRO12 after a disappointing Munster display on Saturday.
Speaking to Off The Ball today, Wood said that the absence of Conor Murray from the starting 15 was one of the potential reasons for the defeat.
“When news started filtering in that Conor Murray would be missing I began to change my view, I thought it was going to be very hard for Munster to win.
“Every time he has played for Munster this year, they looked like a very good side. Without him in the side there wasn’t as much cohesion in the attack, that sense of urgency.”
Wood was critical of the drift defensive tactics employed to combat a side that offloads as much as Glasgow and pointed out how stretched the defence becomes.
“They were being beaten on the outside too often, because when you go through three, four or five phases you end up with props in the middle of the field and hookers in the middle of the field.
However, there were a lot of positives to be taken from the season. From their European exploits and very impressive league campaign, Wood complimented the ability of the squad and praised their resilience.
“They are a team very much in transition and with a huge amount of injuries I think they’ve done very, very well. To be there on the last weekend of the season is very impressive I have to say.
“They were very enjoyable to watch for a lot of the season. A good mixtures of forwards and backs in the squad and they scored a lot of tries as well.”
