JJ Hanrahan is set to depart Munster in the summer.

Reports in France say the out-half will join Clermont-Auvergne at the end of the season.

Hanrahan has found himself demoted to second-choice stand-off following the return to full fitness of Joey Carbery in recent weeks.

Carbery is likely to be picked ahead of Hanrahan for Saturday's Guinness PRO14 Grand Final with Leinster at the RDS.

A two-year contract with Clermont has been agreed, according to RMC Sport, and he'll provide competition for the no.10 jersey with Camille Lopez.

Hanrahan's name had been pitched to a number of clubs in the Top 14, while Clermont had been interested in La Rochelle's Kiwi out-half Ihaia West.

Clermont will be acutely aware of their new recruit's abilities.

Hanrahan kicked 24-points - including a late conversion - as Munster came from 28-9 down to beat Clermont 39-31 at the Stade Marcel-Michelin.

That game went a long way to dispelling the talk that the 28-year old lacked a 'big match temperament'.

Despite talk of a potential Ireland call-up after that performance, it would not materialise for the Six Nations.

Munster could come face-to-face with Clermont again this season. The sides are in the same half of the draw for the knockout phase of the Heineken Champions Cup.

Hanrahan doesn't know who his new head coach will be next season, however. Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Franck Azéma will be leaving at the end of the season.

Former France and Toulouse head coach Guy Noves has been discussed as a potential replacement.
