Toulon was always going to be a daunting challenge for Leinster in the Champions Cup semi-final.
But The Irish Times' Gerry Thornley believes the reigning European champions might not be the worst team that Matt O'Connor's side could face, even though the French club are hugely potent.
"I think it's a blessing they're playing Toulon and not Clermont. I think Clermont are way more potent and more prepared to have a go from anywhere and have much better depth and alignment," Gerry said on Off The Ball tonight.
"Leinster have a fighting chance because they're playing Toulon away, back-to-back champions who have taken Leinster's throne away from them and I also think it's a bit more of a free shot because they're a bit more of an underdog."
Ex-Connacht full-back Gavin Duffy agrees that Clermont would be more of a threat, but did pick on one point about Leinster's game-plan which he noticed while co-commentating the Bath match on Off The Ball at the weekend.
"Their tactic was to go at Bath in a physical manner but I'm not too sure if that's going to be good enough," he said.
