Bundee Aki named in Barabrians squad to face England

Bundee Aki is among the first players named in the Barbarians squad that will take on England next month.

Vern Cotter has selected the first six players that will make up his squad when the Barbarians face England in the Old Mutual Wealth Cup at Twickenham May 28.

Among those named is Connacht centre Bundee Aki, who joins Adam Ashley-Cooper (Australia), Will Genia (Australia) and Facundo Isa (Argentina) among the first named.

Aki, who is originally from New Zealand, will be eligible to line out for Ireland this winter under World Rugby's current residency rules.

Ashley-Cooper and Genia both featured in the 2015 Rugby World Cup final, as Australia were beaten 34-17 by New Zealand.

"The Barbarians is all about bringing together talented players from different countries and you can see from the first group of players selected that we’ve been able to do exactly that," said Cotter.

"We want to compete hard and to entertain in the best traditions of the club, so I’m looking forward to working towards that goal with all the players we’ll have on board when we meet up next month."

The side will also feature Census Johnston (Samoa) and Corey Flynn (New Zealand).

The Barbarians take on England and will follow that with a game against Ulster at Kingspan Stadium on June 1.
