"For me he starts" - Brian O'Driscoll's verdict on Ireland's individual battles

Brian O'Driscoll believes Luke Fitzgerald should be a certain starter for Ireland.

The Leinster star played at 12 against Canada in Ireland's World Cup opener and with Keith Earls as a rival at inside centre and on the wing, Off The Ball guest presenter gave his take on the battles on the wing, centre and across the other positions.

"I just feel that off the back of the last Six Nations game - Luke was okay, not brilliant in the warm-up games - but I thought he was very good last week and for me, he starts," said Brian on tonight's show, going on to add that Jared Payne is one of the first names on the team-sheet at 13 at present.

Cian Healy will make his first start of the tournament against Romania and BOD did not play down the importance of that.

"It's huge for Ireland and Cian Healy. He's one of the guys who needs minutes," said Brian of his former Leinster and international colleague.

"He's someone who gets better with game-time, so it wouldn't surprise me if we see Cian back on the bench for Italy and France. But the more 20 and 30 minute  blasts that he gets, the more he'll become first choice if we get to the knockout stages."

Brian also gave his take on Devin Toner, who appears to have been leapfrogged by Iain Henderson in the second-row.

"Dev's a big guy, he's 120 kilos but he's not a dynamic ball carrier. He's awkward, he's injured many a team-mate from the high knees and wild elbows," he said, adding that Toner would be less of an impact sub option than the dynamic Henderson could be.

But Brian believes it is hard on Toner to have lost his place having been a key man in Ireland's last Six Nations win.
