Andy Dunne: "I think there is no capacity for them to express themselves"

Former Connacht and Leinster scrum-half Andy Dunne believes there is more than meets the eye after Ireland's mediocre Six Nations campaign.

Dunne is worried ahead of the 2019 RWC, and says Joe Schmidt's side look like a team that is suffering with fatigue.

Alan Quinlan and Andy Dunne debated Ireland's recent and worrying performances under Joe Schmidt on Friday morning's OTB AM.

"There's something else going on here. It's a tiredness with trying to implement something they now find very difficult to do", said Dunne.

The Old Belvedere man says there is little capacity for the players to express themselves in the current regime.

"I think there is no capacity for them to express themselves, they are not getting any creative input", expressed Dunne.

He believes it is crucial for the players to be allowed to express themselves in order to maximise performance under the New Zealander.

"We should be allowed to change a few things and have more creative input."

The predictably of Ireland's play has been a key worry for Dunne and how easily teams have been able to neutralise Irish play.

"Teams have worked us out and stopped us", said Dunne.

The former scrum-half says the experienced players must stand up and address any potential issues with the management ahead of September's 2019 RWC in Japan.

"I'd never absolve them of responsibility now if they don't go to Joe now as a group and say, 'here are the things that we think ought to happen."
