Roy Keane addresses Haaland tackle, says he went to 'hurt' players

It is one of the burgeoning bromances in football punditry, and the relationship between Micah Richards and Roy Keane has thrown up some interesting tidbits ahead of the Euros.

Keane spoke to Richards as part of 'Micah and Roy's Road to Wembley', and addressed the most controversial incidents of the Manchester United captain's career.

Roy Keane on Alf-Inge Haaland

Keane spoke of the incident with Alf-Inge Haaland which left the then-Manchester City player requiring surgery on his left knee.

"Can I tell you something? I have never regretted anything I have done on a football pitch, never,' Keane replied with conviction.

'I've been sent off and I've let my team down."

Richards asked Keane about the tackle with the City player.

"To me, I was in the battle with people, I was in the middle of the park."

Injuries

Keane said that he did not mean for the player to get injured.

"No, no of course," said Keane. "Did I go to hurt players? Of course I did.

"I would never apologise for that. And people went to hurt me.

"I never, ever went out to injure a player in my life, [but] did I go out to hurt players? Course.

"Honestly, I'm not going to give it the old 'poor me' one, I never done anything on the football pitch where I went 'Oh my god.' And I never, ever went out to injure a player in my life.

"When you go for a ball in the middle of the park there's a good chance that somebody is going to get hurt."

Keane seemed to get something from discussing the incident with Richards: "This is like my shrink!"
